House GOP: Don't grab an asteroid — let's put bases on moon and Mars
Wed Jun 19, 2013
Since Boeing, Lockheed, and the other big megacorporations that support the Republicans are facing diminishing war profits, now they turn to space. Does anyone believe the party of stupid is interested in science and space? Follow the money. It's the corporations, stupid.
50 years ago, first woman to fly in space wore world's first mission patch
Sat Jun 15, 2013
Fifty years ago ... I remember playing on the kitchen floor when the radio news announced Valentina's launch. Even though I was only 7 years old, I was stunned. It had a profound effect on me, sparked my interest in the Soviets' aerospace accomplishments, which I followed the rest of my life, includ …
Turkish riot police fire tear gas in effort to clear Istanbul protesters
Tue Jun 11, 2013
You see the same corruption in Armenia, next to Turkey. In that corrupt little post-Soviet republic, the crooked politicians and mafia thugs take all the city park land they want, pave it over, and erect sleazy outdoor cafes, complete with plastic palm trees and colored lights. Erdogan thinks he's t …
Turkey crackdown is 'last straw' for Erdogan opponents
Mon Jun 10, 2013
Turkey is far from collapse, but the civil unrest is a sign that something is very, very wrong. The US not get involved? Give me a break. Erdogan thinks he's the new Sultan, gradually pushing Turkey towards Islamic rule. With Israel so close and Syria on the border, the United States will be involve …
Cheerios ad with mixed-race family draws racist responsesÂ
Mon Jun 3, 2013
Yes, it says much about the company: Intrusive, political, and stupid. The shareholders ought to take at look at how well Penney's did using a creepy lesbian in their advertising: estimated billions in lost sales. But it's not politically correct to report on that: editors and reporters won't t …
How and why to teach your kids to code
Sat Jun 1, 2013
The concept of anyone not knowing the meaning of "coding" is way beyond that nerd author's consciousness and experience.
Windows 8.1: Microsoft doubles down on new touch interface
Thu May 30, 2013
In reply to: Pragmatic-3918582 #1 Yeah, right, we've been hearing about Linux/Unix for years. Wasn't 2008 supposed to be "The Year of Linux" ... that didn't happen, when Vista was Microsoft's latest botched OS? Only college students and masochists have the time and inclination to spend hours and ho …
Big Brother may not be watching, but your employer probably is
Thu May 16, 2013
Orwell had it wrong. Big Brother won't wear a government uniform. Big Brother wears a corporate business suit. Corporate culture, especially in America, is intrusive and increasingly abusive and out of line. It's the corporations, stupid.
J.J. Abrams: I was never a huge fan of 'Star Trek'
Mon May 13, 2013
Chris Pine is miscast, too young, too unbelievable as Captain Kirk. He bleats, "I'm sorry" in the trailer. No military commander in his right mind would ever say that to his crew. Quinto/Spock just looks pist off all the time. Simon Pegg's portrayal of Scotty is over the top, too goofy and …
3D movies push up ticket prices to all-time high
Tue Feb 12, 2013
Until theaters stop people from turning on their phones during the film, bring back the concept of the theater usher, I'm reluctant to go see a movie. 3D is a flaky gimmick, and not worth the extra cost. I think the only movie that actually benefitted from 3D tech was TRON.
